PUREPLANET develops reforestation and conservation projects in partnership with fair trade cooperatives throughout the Global South, providing charismatic carbon credits to support local farming communities while fighting climate change.

PUREPLANET works towards Objective Carbon Zero with a variety of institutions to first measure their carbon footprint, then to identify means of reducing, and lastly to offer the ability offset the rest by planting trees and conserving primary forests. Through this sequence of measuring, reducing, and offsetting, we can mitigate our impact on the environment while supporting communities, biodiversity, and the planet!
PUREPLANET was started by a core team of social entrepreneurs including the founder of ALTER ECO, a leading fair trade brand. After ten years of close partnerships with fair trade cooperatives throughout the Global South, PUREPLANET is playing a key role as an offspring of ALTER ECO by working with their cooperative partners to develop reforestation and conservation projects. Since we began working with cooperatives in 1998, it was immediately apparent that restoration and conservation efforts would be essential for the long-term viability of the farms. PUREPLANET is responding to that need by financing agro-forestry projects and selling verified carbon credits on the voluntary market, which simultaneously creates additional revenue for local farming communities.
Along with our partners, we have planted 3 million trees, and we have a goal of planting a total of 12 million trees by the end of 2012. PUREPLANET strives for Objective Carbon Zero, our way of contributing to a healthier and more productive planet.
